End-of-term dates needed for student access to LOCR

If you use Library Online Course Reserves (LOCR) in your courses, please note that an end date is required for your Canvas course in order for LOCR content to be accessible to students.

LOCR content will be accessible if any of the following conditions are met:

  1. Your course has a term assigned;
  2. Your course has an end date with the option “Users can only participate in the course between these dates” checked; or
  3. Your course has an end date assigned to a section.

All courses that were created automatically in Canvas through Mass Course Creation (which is the case for the majority of Canvas courses) will have a term end date set for the course by default. If this is the case for your course and the course end date settings have not been changed, no action is needed — LOCR will function correctly.

If you’re not sure whether your course has an end date set, you can check your course settings by navigating to Settings > Course Details within your Canvas course.

If you have any questions about any of the above (or about using LOCR with Canvas in general), please contact your Instructional Support Unit or the LT Hub.
